Please note that I live in a tropical area which means I have extremely humid weather. It is always sticky here and if it is not sticky and humid and hot it is raining. I also have oily skin around my t zones which is my nose, my jaw, and my forehead. I am also medium dark in the complexion. My product review is obviously affected by that and if you live in a different area from me or are a different skin type or complexion from me you will have a different experience.

So now that the warnings and the claims are out of the way let us start with the review. The first thing we need to discuss this cream is the shade range.

The Lakme 9-5 CC cream comes in four shades- Beige, Honey, Bronze, and Almond. Right off the bat that is an extremely limited shade range for a country which has thousands of different skin tones. It is quite disappointing that an Indian brand like Lakme is so limited in their shades. My biggest issue with Korean BB creams has been the same their shades are extremely limited. I went to the store and swatched all four shades and even the darkest shade, almond, was two times too light for my skin.

I would like to point out that I am not the darkest shade in this country. So if you have dark skin stay away from this product. It will inevitably make you look like a ghost by leaving a weird white cast on your face. If you are a fair skinned girl this is yet another product in the market catered to you. I mixed it with an old foundation that was a shade too dark for me.

Consistency

The consistency of the cream is very thick and almost mousse-like. It does not feel like a BB cream it feels more like a foundation. It is difficult to blend the cream with a brush or beauty blender and you need your hands to really work the product into your skin. However, despite being such a heavy and thick consistency it is still extremely oily almost like butter. Since I do have oily skin around a certain area it felt very icky around them and it also made me look very shiny. It also made my pores look even bigger than they are already. The drier parts of my skin were a lot better and looked moisturized. They looked radiant. The cream did do justice to the dry parts of my skin and moisturized it.

Lakme CC Cream Coverage

The coverage low to none. There’s very sheer coverage which is honestly what is expected of a CC cream but since this was a thicker formula I had my hopes up with it and was consequently let down. This also failed to do the job of a CC cream. A CC cream is supposed to be a color corrector which hides hyperpigmentation and covers your dark spots and circles. It did none of that and instead left a very weird cast on all of those which made it look even worse. I used the cream on a friend who matched the shade and had almost perfect skin with no spots or pores and it looked wonderful on her. It covered whatever little uneven skin tone she had and made it look like she had airbrushed foundation on.

Staying Power

The cream has a great staying power if you have normal or dry skin. If you have oily skin it still stays for a decent amount of time if you powder your face well. It also does not transfer easily and stays in place. There is however some creasing around the smile lines and the eye area.

Lakme has hit it out of the park with the packaging once again. The bright pink packaging that the actual product comes in is beautiful and shiny and very sleek. It has silver detailing and the description and other text on the packaging are in a platinum shade as well. It looks very modern and sleek. The tube is beige colored and has a rose gold cap which makes it look very sophisticated. The packaging of this product is the best thing about it.

We start off the review with the first thing you would notice about every single product that is packaging. The packaging of the product is very low effort and straightforward. The product has patanjali’s logo and an Aloe vera plant on the front and the product description at the back. It is a transparent tube with a saffron cap that is a flip-top cap. The packaging is very secure and nothing really leaks out of the tube. The transparent tube also helps you see how much product do you have left so that you can restock the product if need be. In short, the packaging is simple but sturdy and practical.

Consistency

The formula of the gel is extremely water based which is a great thing because that means that it would both moisturize the dry skin types but not make oily skins even oilier. It looks green in the tube but when you squeeze out a little bit of product it looks clear and it does not leave any weird marks on the skin. It spreads out evenly both with a brush and your fingers and it isn’t difficult to blend at all, and it has a slight fragrance that is not too chemical based and is not overpowering either.

Application

There is a slight shine to the skin right as you apply the product but it is not a bad oily shine. It is a rather nonoily glowy shine. It looks like you are glowing right as you put this product on. I would call it a cheaper variant of a strobe cream. This, however, does not mean that the product feels oily on the skin. It feels weightless and it instantly mattifies your face. I have oily skin and I use almond oil before putting on this product and it still mattifies my skin in an instant and keeps it oil free throughout the day.

I use this gel twice a day. Once as a day moisturizer and at night I mix it with almond oil and I make a thick massage gel. I put on a good thick layer of that product on my skin before I go to sleep like a sleeping mask. It makes my skin super soft in the morning. In my one month of using this the tiny bumps on my forehead have cleared up and they are a lot more even now. Apart from this, there is really no other difference in my face. I, however, did notice a reduction in my dark spots and circles around the eyes but I attribute that to the almond oil and the regular massages.

Overall I think this product is a great buy. It saves you the headache of buying a separate day and night cream and it kind of doubles as both. It is a lightweight and clear formula so it makes your skin look fresh without leaving any weird white cast on your skin. It is also a good base for your makeup and holds the makeup well. It does not work as well as an actual primer but if you are on a budget this is a good option.

The only thing I do not like about it is the fact that the company is notorious for not telling you about the ingredients list and the sourcing of the ingredients. Nobody knows how Patanjali acquires the ingredients and how much it pays the farmers it acquires them from. It is known that they have their own farm but again nobody knows how much they are paying their workers. It makes the whole thing look very fishy to me. If you are someone who is very conscious about how their product is sourced you might want to stay away from Patanjali in general.

Other than this I do not really understand the point of the color and fragrance but I do not hate it either. Most people who look for natural products usually also avoid artificial fragrance or dye because they have been known to irritate the skin. If you have reacted to fragrant products in the past stay away from this product as well. I have never had issues with any fragrance so this worked fine for me.

I am not thinking about buying this again but that is mostly because of sourcing reasons and the fact that I really want to try out lotus gel for my skin as well. Other than that there is no reason why I would not recommend this product to anybody.
